Hiya my loves! I’m so excited to finally write my first travel blog and I decided why not start with the ‘City of Dreams’ in India – MUMBAI. I visited Mumbai in Spring, around third week of February. This peninsular city located near Arabian Sea, where I am from (Aida Arabian – Arabian Sea, get it?) is the financial capital of India and of course, Bollywood! I’m going to tell you about the two days I spent there, walking, eating, talking, shopping and checking out the hotels, pubs and cafes. This isn’t my first time in Mumbai and certainly not the last! The city is so lively and those vibes, oh my gosh! So, there you go, so excited to tell you all about it! Ou, also a dear friend of mine, Papeeha hosted me and it was the best thing ever! Her family welcomed me with open arms and were so kind to give a change of environment I needed in those days.

Day 1 : J W Marriott & Razzberry Rhinoceros

I step out of the airport and feel the sultry climate. I wonder, isn’t it spring and then it hits me that it’s a coastal city! Papeeha picks me up from the airport and we straight away head to JW Marriott in Juhu for a scrumptious lunch. Located on the Juhu coastline, it’s a luxurious 5-star hotel often frequented by celebrities especially from Bollywood. We were welcomed with drinks and I couldn’t wait to dive into their Buffet. I was starving from my travel and we decided to not stop anywhere midway for snacks as we had already informed the hotel staff about our arrival and food requirements. They have a very spacious ambience and I felt so comfortable being there. Although the city is claustrophobic, this hotel isn’t. Attention to the hungry stomach now. Their Buffet was grand and they had so many varieties for both, vegetarians and non-vegetarians. OMG I can’t even name all the items because there were so many. Other thing, the service was excellent. The staff were so helpful and kind to me. For instance, I was feeling all lazy and tired after the flight, the staff could guess that I was not in the mood to get up and he immediately ran towards me and attended to my needs. I needed a cup of coffee and the buffet just seemed so far away after hogging so much. Anyway, after eating so much, my body needed a nap and we headed to Papeeha’s place.

Later in the evening, she decided to take me to Razzberry Rhinoceros, a hip pub again, in the western suburbs of Mumbai, i.e., Juhu. It had recently undergone renovation and was looking more iconic than ever. The entrance to this place is quite charming and something out of a fairy tale book. We had to walk a bit through the Uditi Tarang Housing Colony, where we encountered beautiful doors and windows. My sight caught these blue doors which stood out on the white wall background. They had creepers growing along-side the door border. It reminded me a lot of old Portuguese architecture and made me think of some warm memories of back in the day. We decided to sit on the Deck as obviously, why wouldn’t I breathe Mumbai air? Humid, sultry but so captivating. Being on the deck and sipping in the view of the beach was all I need to fill in my soul. As I went in the evening, I witnessed the sunset and oh my gosh! It was such a breathtaking sight! The colours of the sunset is what fills my soul. I wasn’t really hungry after the heavy brunch so I opted for a soft drink where as she ate the entire menu to her stomach’s content. According to her, it was very yummy and she had to loosen a button of her pants!

Day 2 : Pali Village Café & Chai Coffi

The next day, Papeeha’s parents woke us up early and insisted that we have breakfast at home but as spoilt as a South Bombay girl can be, she and I went back in time at Pali Village Café in Bandra. Rashmi Singh (food blogger) has pointed out, it’s a ‘shabby-chic, bungalow-restaurant’. I was sceptical after reading those words but this café is not to be missed out upon. It has a very unique setting – Vintage. The walls, the vessels used, the furniture is more like taking the customers back to 1930s. The colour of the walls has been peeling off and it just adds so much more texture to the whole look and setting of this café. All in all, I will go again and again for their rugged, raw ambience. I opted to have Organic Tea; English breakfast. It was very refreshing. The French Toast; maple syrup & fruit compote is a must try. I was feeling the spring glow after eating such a healthy breakfast.

As we were in Bandra, I insisted Papeeha to take me to the Linking Road. It is a shopping hub for every pocket size with everything from street stalls selling products for a bargain to niche stores and boutiques for specialized products to high end international brands. I shopped a lot and we spent hours looking at and trying out different outfits and accessories. Around 4 p.m, our energies needed a recharge and the next place I went to, is famous for its unusual tea concoctions. This baby of Farhan Azmi [owner of Koyla and Café Basilico] Chai Coffi is located in Andheri West. This café was a good bet as it’s on the way back to the airport. It has a limited menu but the varieties of Tea are unlike any other. Very difficult to choose. They serve complimentary bread basket which in fact was quite tasty. I requested for Fattoush Salad which is a middle eastern salad mixed with greens, organic cucumber and tomato with olives and lime dressing. It was a conscious healthy choice after the street food I had at linking road, vanished into the thin air from my tummy. I ended up having Strawberry & Champagne Tea, which was a really new taste in my mouth. A great taste. Similarly, I urge you to try their other options. It is very pocket friendly and a tea lover must visit here at least once in their lives.

That’s about it for now loves, can’t wait to travel somewhere new again. Mumbai gave me a sense of belonging and I can’t wait to visit again. I hope you guys like the pictures! And a special thanks to Papeeha’s family. They did not let me feel like an outsider for even a second. So glad that they hosted me. Plus, the last venue on the list was Andheri, it was easier for me to board my flight as Andheri is close to the Airport Terminal. I travel light when it comes to visiting a Metro. One backpack, couple of days, couple of places. I bid my farewell to Papeeha’s parents early in the morning itself as I wouldn’t be coming back with her. I am totally going to miss her company as she’s the coolest person to be around. Can’t wait to be back already.

If at all you live for the ambience along with your dining experience, you ought to visit the above mentioned places. Write in the comments below about your experiences in Mumbai.
